POSITION:  General Service Tech/Shop Helper

REPORTS TO:  Shop Manager/ Shop Foreman

HOURS:  Full-Time Monday thru Friday  No Weekend Hours

OVERVIEW

This is not a job – it’s a career.  The Automotive Service Technician represents a vital role at Douglas Automotive and ensures that all work requested by the customer has been completed correctly and efficiently. Training is provided.  Customer service is important, and candidates must have a genuine concern for the customers safety and vehicle cleanliness. Additionally, this position works with fellow team members to keep the shop is clean, organized, stocked and safe.  As automotive repair professionals, Douglas Automotive service technicians demonstrate a sincere interest in learning new technologies and stay current with the latest techniques in diagnosing and repairing brakes, hydraulic, exhaust, electrical, suspension, alignment, air conditioning and computer systems.   

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Primary:

  • As part of the Douglas Automotive team, maintain cooperative, friendly working environment.
  • Skilled in basic automotive repair skills such as changing oil, transmission fluid, ad filters.
  • Ability to install batteries and check electrical systems.
  • Ability to perform proper tire maintenance. 
  • Ensure exceptional customer experience by performing quality control inspection process and basic cleaning on all vehicles serviced by Douglas Automotive. 
  • Ensure shop is kept clean, safe, and well stocked.  This includes but is not limited to cleaning and stocking shop bathroom/locker-room, keeping shop floors clean and free from debris, fluids, used parts, etc., Regular inspection of grounds outside of shop and ensuring they are clean and free of debris and void of any safety concerns.

 

Secondary:

  • Willing and able to drive company vehicles to pick up parts and shuttle customers as required.
  • Able to take direction and complete specific services and repairs proficiently as directed by shop foreman.
  • Assist with maintaining clean, efficient service vehicles.
  • Participate in training, follow safety procedures, job duties and company policies.
  • Perform thorough road testing on vehicles serviced.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Basic knowledge of passenger vehicles  in order to identify components in engine compartment and undercarriage for the purpose of checking repairs.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Skilled in basic automotive repair skills such as changing oil, transmission fluid, ad filters.
  • Ability to install batteries and check electrical systems.​
  • Tire maintenance
  • Ability to enter and exist vehicles without assistance, including ability to operate /drive a vehicle
  •  Valid U.S. Driver’s License and ability to safely drive passengers
  • Ability to life 50 lbs without assistance
  • Ability to perform physical maneuvers for various tasks in the shops such as sweeping, pushing machinery, reaching high and low with hands/arms, and other full body movements as required to complete job.
  • Skilled and able to interact with customers in a professional, friendly manner.
  • Skilled and able to read/write English
  • Skilled and able to perform basic math skills.
  • Ability to perform major and fine motor skill movements in the process of using various tools and techniques for the purpose of repairing and servicing vehicles.
